Sidewalk displays add to city life

To the editor:

Re: "No more free ride on city sidewalks," Nov. 24.

I like to see the sandwich boards and the produce displayed out front of the veggie markets and the bikes outside those shops. This makes for an appealing street, and one where I want to shop.

We live in a very busy city with lots of hurry and scurry. If these outdoor sights slow us down, I'm all for it.

I've never tripped over any of these items and I've never seen anyone else trip either. To me, these displays create an ambiance of a slower, more attractive time and I don't think the city should be gouging the store owners who are creating this effect.
