Memories of Marpole
About 140 years ago, according to one Vancouver pioneer, a thirsty ex-soldier walked into a saloon and laid some "land scrip" (a government-issued credit note) down on the bar. If he'd used it to purchase land in the wilderness that would one day be Vancouver, his descendants would be wealthy today.
